Emma and Hook take a nap in the middle of the day
“Perhaps there’s a man that you love in the life that you’ve lost.”
The words startled Emma. This man – whoever he was – had been going on and on about saving her family, doing what was right, and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he said this.
Walsh was the one for her, wasn’t he? She remembered their first meeting, his goofy smile, his love for Henry. But she also remembered last night and his proposal, the too-large diamond ring placed on the sickly sweet dessert. She had written off the hesitancy as her fear of commitment, nothing else. But was that truly the reason? Did she love him?
What if – what if there was someone else? If Emma was to believe this crazy stranger (which she wasn’t ready to yet, of course not) then was there another man besides Walsh? Deep down, deeper than Emma had ever dared to tell anyone, she had known from the start that something was off with her relationship with Walsh. Not a red-alert-call-an-ambulance off, just a twinge of – what? Instincts? Fear?
And who was this man she supposedly loved?
Emma opened her mouth to retort back at this irritating man, a stalker really, who dared to walk into her life and mess it up, but the words died in her mouth as she glanced at his face.
His blue eyes glowed with intensity, willing her to believe all these ridiculous claims, and a jolt of electricity shot through her body as an unsettling thought came to her mind: was this the man that she loved?
No, it couldn’t be. He was a stranger who, handsome as he may be, was completely unknown to her. But her mind wandered back to his unwelcomed kiss, his relentlessness in pursuing her these past few days – who else other than a lover would dare to do such things? His eyes were burning into hers with a passion she had never, ever in her life experienced and Emma suddenly had a vision of a ship’s cabin; small and claustrophobic, mixed in with the smell of the sea and alcohol. For a wild second, she felt like she was going to faint before she realized she hadn’t breathed since he had uttered the words.
Emma took a deep breath, still staring at his unguarded eyes, unable to look away. Whoever this man was – whether he was her long lost love or a stalker with psychopathic tendencies – he had a lot of explaining to do.
What do you say love? Take a leap of faith.
